New Dimensions: "Calibration" at LaiSun Keane Gallery (Gallery Exhibition)

Boston, MA: The LaiSun Keane Gallery has unveiled its latest exhibition, "Calibration," featuring an innovative fusion of traditional ceramic arts with cutting-edge 3D printing technology.

The exhibition, which runs from May 24 to July 7, 2024, presents the works of four talented artists: Audrey An, Raina Lee, Cathy Lu, and Danyang Song.

This is the first time these artists are showcasing their work at our gallery, making this event a groundbreaking introduction to their unique artistic perspectives.

Opening Reception and Artist Talk

"Calibration" has an Opening Reception on Friday, June 7th, from 5:00 to 8:00pm, offering an opportunity for guests to meet the artists and experience their works up close. The following day, Saturday, June 8th, from 1:00 to 2:00pm, Zach Ngin, Curatorial Assistant at the MIT List Visual Arts Center, will moderate an artist talk. This session promises to provide deeper insights into the creative processes and technological innovations behind the artworks. Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to reserve their tickets in advance.

The Concept of Calibration

The exhibition's title, "Calibration," suggests a theme of precise adjustment and alignment, reflecting the meticulous process of combining ceramics with 3D printing technology. This theme is aptly chosen, considering how both fields require a deep understanding of material and method, but it also invites viewers to adjust their perceptions and appreciate ceramics through a new technological lens.

Artistic Fusion

Each artist brings a unique blend of cultural heritage and contemporary technique to the table:

  • Audrey An explores the boundaries between digital fabrication and handcraft.

  • Raina Lee captures the unpredictability of natural forms through precise technological processes.

  • Cathy Lu manipulates traditional ceramic forms to reflect on her cultural identity.

  • Danyang Song focuses on the intersection of organic design and mechanical production.

Together, their works challenge the conventional boundaries of ceramic art, offering fresh narratives and breathtaking aesthetics that blend the old with the new.
